It Looks Like A UFO, But When You Step Inside The Disturbing Truth Is Revealed.

It looks like a scene from Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, but this unusual structure is actually perched on a mountain in Bulgaria.

It’s called the House of the Bulgarian Communist Party, and it is just one of the massive communist-built buildings that signify a particular time in Bulgarian history. After the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989, the country moved to democracy and left all vestiges of communism behind — save for the remaining buildings.

Now, the Bulgarian government can’t afford to maintain the historical building, but they can’t afford to demolish it, either. While the future of the House of the Bulgarian Communist Party is uncertain, we’re lucky enough to catch a glimpse at it below.

While people argue over what can be done with it, the building is basically at the mercy of the elements.

Clearly, the entire thing is in need of repair, but the now-democratic government wants nothing to do it. Instead, the current prime minister has transferred ownership of the structure to the Bulagarian Socialist Party.

The remaining symbols of what the building used to stand for still remain.

Many Bulgarians believe that if the building was restored, it would bring tourists in by the hundreds.

It’s hard to say what might happen to this bizarre and controversial property, but for now, we’re just going to revel in the weirdness of it all.
